Restoring Your Core Contour

Pregnancy, significant weight loss, and natural aging can stretch the abdominal skin and weaken the underlying muscles beyond the point of repair through diet and exercise alone. A Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) goes beyond simply removing fat; it physically excises loose, hanging skin and acts as an "internal corset," tightening separated abdominal muscles to restore a flat, toned, and structurally sound midsection.

Diastasis Recti Repair

During the procedure, we permanently stitch separated abdominal muscles back together, flattening the stomach wall and resolving core weakness commonly caused by pregnancy.

Strategic Scar Placement

The incision is meticulously placed very low on the abdomen (often below the bikini or underwear line) so that the resulting scar is easily hidden in standard clothing.

Are You a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty is highly transformative, but timing is crucial. Ideal candidates have reached their weight loss goals and have completed building their families.

Ideal Candidates

  • Have loose, hanging skin following pregnancy or massive weight loss
  • Suffer from a protruding abdomen due to separated muscles
  • Maintain a relatively stable body weight
  • Wish to remove stretch marks located below the belly button
  • Are in good general health and are non-smokers

Needs Evaluation

  • Planning future pregnancies (which can re-stretch the repaired muscles)
  • Currently have a BMI over 30 (weight loss is recommended prior to surgery)
  • Active smokers (nicotine drastically impairs skin healing and increases risks)
  • Only looking to remove stubborn fat without loose skin (liposuction alone is better)

Safety in Complex Body Contouring

A Tummy Tuck is a major surgical procedure requiring rigorous safety protocols. Our operations are performed in an ISO-9001 certified surgical suite under the direct care of board-certified anesthesiologists to ensure your comfort, stability, and rapid recovery.

Clinical aesthetic surgical suite

Our sterile surgical environment is fully equipped for major body contouring and recovery monitoring.

Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

It is a common misconception that liposuction can fix a protruding stomach. If the protrusion is caused by loose skin or weakened muscles, liposuction will only empty the fat, leaving the skin looking deflated.

Factor Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Liposuction
Primary Target Loose skin, weakened muscles, and excess fat Stubborn fat deposits only
Muscle Repair Yes, repairs diastasis recti (internal corset) No effect on muscles
Skin Excision Physically removes hanging skin & lower stretch marks Relies on natural skin elasticity to shrink back
Scarring Horizontal scar along the lower bikini line Tiny, barely visible 3-4mm incisions
Downtime 2 to 3 weeks for basic daily activities 3 to 7 days for basic activities

The Surgical Process

A comprehensive approach combining skin excision, muscle repair, and fat contouring.

1

Marking & Anesthesia

While you are standing, the surgeon draws precise markings to ensure the final scar sits as low as possible. You are then placed under general anesthesia by our board-certified anesthesiologist.

2

Incision & Liposuction

A horizontal incision is made just above the pubic mound. The skin is lifted to reveal the abdominal wall. Liposuction is often performed simultaneously on the flanks (love handles) to improve the overall waistline contour.

3

Muscle Repair (Internal Corset)

The surgeon pulls the separated, weakened abdominal muscles together and stitches them tightly in place, instantly flattening the stomach wall and restoring core strength.

4

Skin Excision & Navel Placement

The upper abdominal skin is pulled down tightly like a window shade. The excess skin (along with any stretch marks below the navel) is removed. A new opening is created for your existing belly button to sit naturally.

5

Closure & Compression

The incisions are closed with layered, dissolving sutures. Small drainage tubes are usually placed to prevent fluid buildup, and you are fitted into a medical compression garment.

Your Recovery Journey

Healing from a Tummy Tuck is a marathon, not a sprint. Proper rest and following protocols are vital for a beautiful scar and flat contour.

Day 1–5
Your abdomen will feel very tight, and you will walk slightly bent at the waist to reduce tension on the incision. Prescription medication manages the soreness. Drains manage fluid.
Week 1–2
Drains are typically removed at the clinic. You will begin to stand completely upright. Swelling is significant, but most patients transition to remote/desk work if necessary.
Week 3–6
You must wear your compression garment constantly. Energy levels return to normal. You can resume light cardio, but heavy lifting or core exercises are strictly forbidden.
Month 3–6
Deep swelling resolves, revealing a flat, toned abdomen. You are cleared for all core workouts. The scar begins its maturation process, turning from red to a faded, pale line over the next year.

Honest About Risks, Serious About Safety

Abdominoplasty is a major surgery. We prioritize transparency during your consultation so you can make a fully informed decision regarding your health.

  • Scarring: The horizontal scar is permanent. While we place it low to be hidden by underwear, how it ultimately fades depends significantly on your genetics and post-operative scar care.
  • Fluid Accumulation (Seroma): Fluid naturally gathers in the empty space where skin was removed. We use surgical drains for the first week to manage this safely.
  • Numbness: Temporary numbness of the skin between the belly button and the incision line is universally expected. Sensation usually returns gradually over several months.
  • Blood Clots (DVT): A risk with any major surgery. We mitigate this by using compression boots during surgery and requiring you to perform light walking immediately the day after surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a "Mini" Tummy Tuck?

A Mini Tummy Tuck is for patients whose loose skin is isolated entirely beneath the belly button. It involves a smaller incision, no repositioning of the belly button, and typically does not repair the upper abdominal muscles.

Will this remove my stretch marks?

A Tummy Tuck physically removes the skin on the lower abdomen. Any stretch marks located on the skin between your belly button and pubic area will be permanently removed. Stretch marks outside this area will remain but may appear flatter due to the tightened skin.

Can I get pregnant after a Tummy Tuck?

Yes, it is medically safe to get pregnant after the procedure. However, we strongly advise against it, as pregnancy will re-stretch the skin and separate the surgically repaired muscles, undoing the cosmetic results of your surgery.

Are surgical drains absolutely necessary?

In most Full Tummy Tucks, yes. Drains prevent fluid buildup (seromas) under the skin, which can cause infection or ruin the contour. They are usually painless and are removed in the clinic 5 to 7 days after surgery.

When can I sleep on my stomach again?

You must sleep on your back (preferably slightly elevated in a recliner or with pillows) for the first 3 to 4 weeks. You can usually transition to side sleeping after a month, but stomach sleeping should be avoided until at least 6 weeks post-op.

Will my belly button look natural?

Yes. Your belly button stalk remains attached to your abdominal wall; we simply pull the new, tightened skin over it and create a precise, small opening for it. We take great care to ensure it looks natural, hooded, and free of obvious scarring.
